rivers run the balkans
director, producer
Bec was approached by Patagonia to make a short documentary about the importance of the wild rivers in The Balkans. In collaboration with photographer Lewis Khan, and Dazed Studio’s Creative Director Sion Phillips, Bec travelled across The Balkans talking with various people on the role of the wild rivers throughout the region. As part of Patagonia’s environmental activism the brand was supporting various groups who were fighting to prevent the damming of the fresh, clean river waters. Bec sought to speak with young people and women to hear how the wild rivers were relevant to all of their lives, how identities often came to be formed in relation to these rivers and why they believed they were worth protecting. Over the course of 5 days the team drove between Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina stopping in various locations to talk with as many people as possible. Such an important issue demanded careful consideration on how to present the story in a way which would resonate with Dazed’s younger skewing audience.
