blue corridor 15
producer, development
Blue Corridor 15 was Executive Produced and Commissioned by Bec, as part of the New Creatives project, supported by Arts Council England and BBC Arts, and in collaboration with the ICA and Dazed. After premiering on BBC4, Dubheasa Lanipekun’s film has since been screened at numerous festivals and was selected to play as ‘curtain raiser’ to the feature film Rocks, in Trafalgar Square, as part of ‘Back to the Big Screen’ initiative . After her family falls on hard times, Elizabeth starts styling her classmates’ hair at break time to earn money. At school, Elizabeth and her friends Tobi and Nana reckon with lessons they teach each other, as they seek to understand themselves. As the wider world bleeds into the girls’ understanding of their place within it, classroom politics and tensions come to a head in a teenage friendship, close to sisterhood. Blue Corridor 15 is a sensitive and intimate portrait of South London girlhood, and how beauty culture as well as race and gender politics get discussed in chaotic adolescence.
